The Hida Takayama Morning Market is known as one of Japan's top three morning markets. Takayama is home to two morning markets: the Jinya-mae Morning Market, which takes place in the square in front of the Takayama Jinya, and the Miyagawa Morning Market, held along the Miyagawa River. The two markets are located a 10-minute walk from each other.
These morning markets are said to have been held continuously for several hundred years, dating back to the Edo period. Known as the kitchen of the common people, the market offers fresh vegetables alongside handmade pickles produced lovingly by local farmers, as well as other processed agricultural produce.
